Trustee

Usability test for Trustee Wallet on 06/23/2021, using an iPhone SE 2016, iOS 14.6.

With every usability test, I do not use or search for the wallet’s how-to guides. I aim to figure out everything I need within the platform.

My first approach is to try using the FIO service (requests and send) in the wallet app immediately and see if the wallet can direct me to the right places to get started with those features.

Summary:

The FIO service is only accessible on the settings page on the FIO token wallet.

Registering a FIO Address:

Not the most obvious process, since it takes a bit of digging. However, the process was easy.

Potential Issues:

Why should a user create a FIO account?

  • For a new user in FIO, it might not be so obvious what a FIO account is for, and why is it needed.

  • Suggestion:
Some sort of “read more” page would be useful. Users can click on it to discover more about FIO protocol, what they could do with it, and instructions on how to use it.

  • “FIO account” may also need to be renamed.

Mapping crypto to FIO Address:

Was very difficult to find where to map crypto to a FIO address.

After creating a FIO address, Trustee wallet gave no indication that mapping crypto was required to use FIO protocol. Some wallets do it automatically, others manually. Without instruction in the app, a new user would not know that mapping was a required step. It’s also hard to find FIO protocol service within the app.

My first thought was to get started with creating FIO request (I assumed no mapping was necessary as I wasn’t informed that it was a required step). The request service was also difficult to find, but once I did, I found that I could only request for FIO tokens. This informed me that I had to manually map other coins to my FIO address.

To a new uninformed user on FIO protocol, they would just assume that only FIO tokens would work with FIO protocol.

Eventually, I figured out how to map other tokens to the address.

Potential Issues:

Hard to find FIO Protocol due to discrete settings button:

1. Very discrete button:

  • The button to explore more features on FIO, was very discrete. I thought it was just aesthetics and not useable. It took me a while to know figure out that it was a clickable button.

  • Unfortunately, this can't be changed as its the ‘settings’ button for all tokens on Trustee wallet, and part of their wallet design.

2. Button works differently on every token:

  • On every token, you see different settings by clicking on that button -- all settings seem to work with just that token specifically. E.g. Tron settings work with their staking. BTC settings work with BTC transactions.

  • This isn’t a problem per se. I just doubt that a new user unfamiliar with FIO would anticipate an actual service that works ALL tokens to be behind that button. One would expect to see settings similar to that of other tokens (staking, transaction settings etc).

  • Suggestion:
Have the FIO protocol be present in other areas of Trustee wallet. Example: In the send and receive pages on all of the token wallets. If I click send or receive, I should see options to use FIO protocol.

Accepting FIO Requests:

Hard to find where to accept FIO requests. Also didn’t work.

Sending FIO Requests:

Not the most intuitive process. FIO requests are only available under the FIO wallet.

  • When exploring Trustee wallet for the first time, I wanted to immediately fund the wallet with ETH by using FIO protocol.

  • By clicking on the receive button on the ETH wallet, and not seeing FIO requests as an option, I was under the impression that FIO protocol wasn’t integrated into the wallet.

  • It was only until I found the FIO service under the FIO token, that I realized that Trustee did support FIO (however, it took me a while to realize that). I then proceeded to make an address, map crypto, requests etc.

Potential Issues:

1. Can’t see the FIO address “emily@trustee”.

  • Suggestion:
Make text black? Or another dark color?

2. FIO memo not being treated as a regular memo? FIO memo gets separated out under a “show more” drop-down:

3. FIO addresses are not case sensitive:

Sending Funds with FIO Address:

Easy to do, but wasn’t so obvious that it would work/was an option. Wanted to send ETH using FIO protocol.
